The ridiculously dubbed “resolutiongate” saga continues, as Eurogamer and Digital Foundry have learned that Call of Duty Ghosts single-player runs at 720p on PS4, out the box.
A day-one patch is ready to boost the game up to the promised 1080p resolution.
This is a sore point because Ghosts developer Infinity Ward, more specifically executive producer Mark Rubin, has been all over the place with his message regarding the game’s resolution.
Back in June he said Ghosts would perform at 1080p on both consoles, but it has since emerged that on Xbox One the game is locked to 720p.
In late October, days before the game was set to launch on current-gen and PC, Rubin confirmed the game ran at 720p on Xbox One, adding that the PS4 version was a native 1080p affair.
While this will be true post-patch, it still means the game was geared for a 720p native experience in the first place. An Activision spokesperson blamed this on a “configuration issue”.
One of the reasons “resolutiongate” has caused an uproar is because Call of Duty Ghosts was meant to lead the next-gen charge for the most popular and money-churning franchises in recent gaming history – but it turned out to be particularly poor showing for the franchise.
