Indie Game: The Movie is set to be a full feature documentary covering indie games, their creators, and the lengths they go to in order to bring us their labours of love. “It examines independent game developers as a way to understand the medium and the theory behind video games. Throughout, the film focuses on the human side of the creative process, and the connections between game and game-maker,” says the website.
Inspired by attending the 2009 Game Developers Conference and a short film by Alec Holowka, the filmmakers say that “we found the individual stories and entire culture of independent developers exceptionally fascinating and compelling. From the perspective of storytelling, gameplay and development process, it seems that some of the most interesting things going on in video games are happening in the indie space.”
The movie is currently on track for release in 2011, but in line with most independent projects, the filmmakers could do with the support of the community and are currently trying to raise money through KickStarter.com.
One can pledge money to the film and in return, depending on the amount pledged, receive the reward of a mention in the credits, a special edition DVD version of the movie, and the opportunity to submit a short video which will be included in the film. The payment process is monitored through Amazon, guaranteeing credit card security.
