Ubisoft: “Half our games will be in 3D by 2012”

19 May 2010

While many have called it a gimmick, 3D gaming is something I am really excited about. Opening up those extra spatial dimensions can really push the sensory experience felt when gaming to the next level.

Ubisoft obviously agrees, and has recently announced that by 2012 all its games will be developed in 3D for PS3 and Xbox 360, as well as portable consoles.

“We can count on substantial grown in the 3D market just because it’s more immersive, so it will be a good way for the industry to give even more emotion to the gamers,” said Ubisoft.

The shift will be gradual, with around 20% of their games released next year being in 3D. This will be increased to around 50% in the following year.

The PS3 recently received a patch that will allow it to render in 3D, as long as the console is attached to a compatible TV.
