eBay buyer scammed R7,800 for picture of an Xbox One

6 December 2013

A 19-year-old UK teen has been duped out of £450 plus £8 shipping (±R7,800) for a picture of an Xbox One console, the Nottingham Post reports.

Peter Clatworthy had saved up to purchase a limited edition day one version of the Xbox One console as a Christmas present for his 4-year-old son, and thought he’d found one advertised on eBay.

The listing did say it was a picture of an Xbox One console, but Clatworthy said he expected to receive an actual console since it was listed in the video games and consoles category on eBay.

When Clatworthy received the picture in the post, written on the back was the message “Thank you for your purchase”.

Clatworthy is in luck, as he paid for the picture using PayPal, and the service states that if the item doesn’t match the seller’s description or gets lost in the post, they will issue a full refund.

eBay has said that they do not tolerate misleading product listings, and will take action against the seller.
