New Tekken movie in the works

14 January 2014

Japanese movie news site, Cinema Today is reporting that a new Tekken movie is in the works, dubbed Tekken – A Man Called X.

The last movie left a lot to be desired, and one of the only reasons I suffered through the whole thing was to note the character development of Nina, portrayed by none other South African actress, Candice Hillebrand.

Also, I didn’t know this, but the game’s lead developer, Katsuhiro Harada hated the whole embarrassing mess (thanks Kotaku). “That Hollywood movie is terrible. We were not able to supervise that movie (It was cruel contract) I’m not interested in that [movie]” Harada tweeted, once upon a time.

Anyway, that was the previous Tekken movie – let’s get excited about the next one!

Tekken – A Man Called X will star Kane Kosugi of Godzilla: Final Wars and DOA: Dead or Alive fame. Apparently Kosugi is known for his martial arts skills, which is a good start for a fighting flick.

Another promising revelation, is that Prachya Pinkaew will be directing, known for his films Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior and The Predator.

There isn’t much else to go on at this stage, and so we eagerly await news of a theatrical launch date.
