Bioware’s hit epic sci-fi RPG franchise, Mass Effect, is on its way to being made into a live action movie.
Legendary Pictures’ Jon Jashni and Thomas Tull (Spiderman, the Dark Knight) recently acquired the film rights, and will be producing it along with former Marvel Studios head Avi Arad and his son Ari.
These two have also been connected to the upcoming Uncharted movie.
Co-founders of BioWare, Greg Zeschuck and Ray Muzyka will also be involved in the film adaptation, serving as executive producers.
I Am Legend scriptwriter March Protosevich is currently being considered to pen the script.
Mass Effect is a tremendous property ripe for translation to the big screen,” said Thomas Tull, Chairman and CEO of Legendary Pictures. “Mass Effect is a prime example of the kind of source material we at Legendary like to develop; it has depth, compelling characters and an engaging back story. This coupled with Avi and Ari producing and the skills of a great team adapting the screenplay, are the start of turning this smash videogame based property into a successful feature film.”
Mass Effect joins an ever growing list of games destined for the big screen, alongside the likes of Uncharted 2, Gears of War, Prince of Persia, Street Fighter, Heavy Rain, inFamous, Warcraft, Halo, Dead Space, Asteroids, Bioshock and more.
