Steam Music beta announced

Valve is preparing to launch the Steam Music portion of its ever-expanding gaming platform, ticking another box on the living-room entertainment check-list.

To sign up for the beta, head on over to the Steam Music community group. Beta participants will be chosen from members of the group.

Users will simply point Steam toward their music library, which will then become available through Steam’s interface to be controlled during games.

Interface options include managing albums, track and playlists, and access through the Steam UI overlay during gameplay.

For now, the feature will roll-out to the Big Picture and SteamOS interfaces, with desktop support coming later.

Posting to the community group, Valve said:

“With this beta, we’re getting started with what we believe to be the most fundamental set of features to offer a great music listening experience within Steam. As always, our next steps for the feature will be influenced by your beta feedback, so please share your feature requests, thoughts, and experiences in the music discussions. Happy listening!”
