PlayStation 4 – latest worldwide sales figures revealed

17 April 2014

Sony has sold 7 million PlayStation 4 units worldwide.

The console manufacturer made the announcement this week after the latest sales figures came in on 6 April 2014. Sony also stated that, as of 13 April 2014, 20.5 million PS4 games had been sold by retailers and on the PlayStation Store.

“On behalf of the entire global team at PlayStation, I want to thank you for your unprecedented support and for making PS4 your next-generation console of choice,” said social media manager Sid Shuman on the US PlayStation Blog.

7 million consoles is a substantial increase from the 6 million mark which was reached by Sony in the beginning of March.

While we are on the topic of the PlayStation 4, Sony has unveiled another addition to the console’s upcoming v1.70 update – a video editor titled Sharefactory.

Sharefactory will allow PS4 owners to stitch together gameplay footage and then customise it with text, transitions, themes, and filters. Users will also be able to add video commentary using the PlayStation Camera, and import their own music for the videos.

The videos can be shared through social networks or exported to a USB storage device.

The v1.70 update also includes the ability to switch off HDCP to allow for direct video capture, and the removal of default saves for both screenshots and video clips.

Additionally, the update will ship with an auto pre-download feature that, when enabled, will pre-download selected pre-ordered games in advance. Sony has not revealed a date for the v1.70 update.
