And by that, I mean StarCraft II is coming out. Easily one of the most anticipated PC games ever released, StarCraft II is the long awaited sequel to what is arguably the most prolific real-time strategy title ever made.
StarCraft has spawned an e-sports industry like no other in South Korea, and the western world is no stranger to its charms either. A staggering 11 million copies of the game have been sold since its launch – a remarkable achievement for a PC exclusive title. Industry analysts have forecast relatively modest sales of around 4 million, although Blizzard would like to exceed this by some margin.
The first in a trilogy, StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will be released around the world and in SA on July 27, so clear your calendars.
The first game will follow the Terran single player campaign, although Blizzard has assured us that the Terran campaign alone will be as long and more indepth than all three StarCraft campaigns combined.
Follow up releases for the Zerg and Protoss campaign are expected in the coming years.
Wings of Liberty will feature all three races in its multiplayer component, which has already enjoyed substantial beta testing. Sadly, it will not ship with LAN integration, and the only legitimate way to play StarCraft II multiplayer will be over Battlnet.
Thats not all that is being released this month however.

StarCraft II (PC) 27 July
While pickings are pretty slim, Crackdown 2 is one to watch, and PC gamers will be thrilled to finally get their hands on DarkSiders. A new iteration of Tiger Woods Golf is also something to look forward to for fans of the sport.
So all in all, not a bad month, particularly for PC gamers.
If anything, it should give console gamers time to get through their backlog before Mafia 2, RUSE, HAWX 2, Halo: Reach and Medal of Honour drop in the coming months.
