Dragon Age 2: What we know so far

9 July 2010

EA last night confirmed that Dragon Age 2 will be released on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in March 2011. Dragon Age: Origins was met with a positive critical response and hardcore RPG lovers praised its depth, longevity and tight party management.

So what else do we know about its sequel?

“You are one of the few who escaped the destruction of your home. Now, forced to fight for survival in an ever-changing world, you must gather the deadliest of allies, amass fame and fortune, and seal your place in history. This is the story of how the world changed forever. The legend of your Rise to Power begins now,” reads the blurb.

So it looks like Bioware is sticking to its the same formula which characterized the first game, as well as its other epic RPG, Mass Effect 2, with players spending much of the game travelling around recruiting party members before pursuing a massive end-game objective.

Key points

Dragon Age 2 will feature a new hero and characters.

The campaign will span an entire decade.

“Dynamic new combat mechanics” have been added.

Bioware is punting Dragon Age 2 as a “cinematic experience.”

The game will be set in a new realm, with updated visuals.

A trailer will be unveiled at Gamescom next month, August 17.

That’s it for now, expect more information to be revealed at Gamescom next month.
