Those of you itching to play cops and robbers, I have bad news – Battlefield Hardline has been delayed until “early 2015”.
Those of you itching to slay some dragons, I also have bad news – Dragon Age: Inquisition has been delayed by just under 2 months, and will now be released in late November.
Why? On both accounts, it seems the delays are so that the developers can make the games better.
Let’s start with Battlefield.
Karl Magnus Troedsson, Dice vice-president and group general manager, said Hardline will be delayed so they could “push Hardline innovation further and make the game even better”.
“[When] we launched a beta for Hardline, we wanted to not only show you the game, but to let you play it for yourselves. The Visceral Games team learned a lot from players about what they wanted in the game. The more we thought about these ideas, the more we knew we had to get them into the game you will all be playing. However, there was only one problem. We would need more time,” said Troedsson.
“Time that we didn’t have if we decided to move forward with launching in just a couple of months. We decided that the right thing to do was to take more time to ensure Hardline is the best, most innovative Battlefield experience we can give to you, our fans.”
The delay, according to Troedsson, will allow the Hardline team to accomplish the following:
- Multiplayer Innovation – new features;
- Single Player Story Depth – create a “deeper” story experience;
- Stability – Optimising the game for a stable launch.
Although I am sad to see the game delayed until next year, it’s good to see the developers are making an effort not to have a repeat of the Battlefield 4 launch.
As for Dragon Age: Inquisition, the upcoming BioWare title was scheduled to be released in SA on 10 October 2014 – it has now been delayed until 21 November (European launch day).
In a post on the game’s website, executive producer Mark Darrah said: “While this extra few weeks may not seem like a lot, I know the game you’ll play will be all the better for it.”
Both games are set to be available for the PS4, PS3, PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
