Microsoft wants to buy out Minecraft

10 September 2014

You read that headline right – according to reports, Microsoft is in talks to buy the company behind Minecraft, Mojang AB.

The deal is rumoured to be worth more than $2 billion (±R21 billion).

Although a Microsoft/Mojang partnership is not the most expected of combinations, Minecraft’s success would make it an acquisition target for any large corporate.

The block-based open world crafting game has sold over 50 million copies since its launch in 2009, and Mojang made over $100 million in profits during 2013.

If Microsoft owns the rights to Minecraft, what do you think will become of the game? Let us know in the comments and forum.
