Privates exposure date confirmed

28 July 2010

Privates caused quite a kerfuffle when it was announced earlier this year. Not surprising really, considering that it is an action-side scrolling platform game which takes place inside a human vagina, the first game to boast such a setting. Condom-helmeted players will be blasting STDs, bacteria, spermatozoa and other baddies commonly found lurking in vaginas (no word yet on butch lesbians delivering monologues – perhaps on the boss level).

It rather defies explanation through words, so go and have a cross-eyed and close-up look at the screenshots and trailer. The game is being developed by Zombie Cow  Studios (Ben There, Dan That; Time Gentlemen, Please!) and produced in association with British television’s Channel 4.

Dan Marshall, Zombie Cow founder, believes that the game promotes safe sex and condom usage, and has been written along the guidelines provided by the British national curriculum. Regardless of whether it is actually educational, or just gives gaming writers an excuse to write the word ‘vagina’ multiple times per article, it does actually look like a well polished and fun game.

Privates will be released on 5 August 2010 via the Channel 4 website. No exact link has been given yet, but stay tuned to MyGaming – we will sniff out the details. There is also no word yet of an XBLA release as the content of the game was having trouble getting through the XBLA approval process.

Thanks to the Guardian Games Blog for breaking the news along with some interesting analysis on Channel 4’s push into digital content.
