4 million more PS3s sold than 360s in past year

30 July 2010

Yesterday we reported that Sony is closing the gap on Microsoft in the console wars. Despite the Xbox 360’s one year lead, the PS3 has managed to get within just 3.6 million consoles sold of Microsoft’s console.

This is largely thanks to the last year, in which Sony has sold 14.3 million PS3s. In comparsion, Microsoft has sold 10.3 million Xbox 360s in the same time.

If this trend continues, the PS3 will have outsold the Xbox 360 by mid-way through 2011. The newly released Xbox 360 S, as well as Kinect and the Playstation Move are all expected to shake up the market, and Microsoft is likely to see a significant increase in units sold.
