Activision has released a gameplay video-clip of the multiplayer component of the next iteration of their ridiculously popular Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Everyone knows that the success of the Call of Duty brand is built on its massively appealing multiplayer component, so as usual, Activision will be pushing this element of the game hard.
The footage revealed could easily be mistaken, at a glance, for a series of new Modern Warfare 2 maps. However, there are a number of interesting looking new innovations, including a radio controlled car packed full of explosives, as well as a thermal camera which players can place, allowing them to monitor different parts of the map.
The video also shows off the new crossbow, which in some instances appears to fire arrows with timed explosives, that attach themselves to enemies before exploding after a few seconds. Then there is the new knife which fires blades, and can be dual wielded.
Possibly most interesting is a new feature is the ability to record and edit video footage from their game time. This is hardly a fresh innovation, and Halo 3 players will be familiar with this functionality.
More is promised in the “multiplayer reveal” which is set to go live on September 1, 2010. With Call of Duty Black Ops being the fourth game in this series developed by Treyarch they are hoping to break ground with the Call of Duty banner, and it is expected to be released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 9, 2010.
The last Call of Duty title, – Modern Warfare 2 developed by Infinity Ward, – left a bitter taste in many PC gamers’ mouths due to the lack of dedicated server support. Treyarch has promised this will not be overlooked with Black Ops.
