Borderlands patch to raise level cap to 69

6 September 2010

During the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) which was held in Seattle this weekend, 2K Games announced that to coincide with the release of the new Borderlands DLC, Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution, the developer will be releasing a patch which will extend the level cap from 61 to 69.

Previous level cap increases have been introduced via DLC packs, however, this patch will be completely free to download and install, regardless of whether gamers buy the new DLC. The free level cap increase is being introduced so that gamers can decide which DLC to buy, instead of having to buy certain packs just for the level cap increase.

Unconfirmed reports have emerged from PAX that when asked why Gearbox chose 69, as opposed to a more round 70, the developer responded saying they “did it for the lolz.”
