Duke Nukem Forever takes 16 hours to finish

18 October 2010

Gaming today is all about the multiplayer. Sure, it has always been a big part of gaming culture, but with the popularity of Xbox Live and PSN higher now than ever before, not to mention drastically improved global broadband infrastructure over the past 10 years, many big name AAA releases are now developed primarily with multiplayer in mind.

Halo, Call of Duty, and Battlefield spring to mind. Modern Warfare 2’s single player could be finished in under 6 hours, and the same is true of EA’s just released Medal of Honor. For those not interested, or not able to go online, the value proposition of the average FPS is drastically declining.

Apparently this will not be the case with the upcoming Duke Nukem: Forever, which according to Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford, currently takes 16 hours to complete. At least that’s how long it took him in a recent play through.

Pitchford added that in other words, Duke Nukem Forever is about 2-3 Call of Duties long.

Article update: We’ve just dropped in this video of Duke Nukem Forver being played at Australia’s Mana Bar.

Is 16 hours too long for a single player shooter? Or should more games be around this length? << Share your views in the forums
