Free Borderlands level cap increase update out now

3 November 2010

Gearbox promised a game update that would increase the player level cap. Then didn’t deliver it on time. There was cryfacing and people threatened to boycott the game or something. Well, dry those tears, gentle adventurer – your MAX PWR LVL just turned up.

The level cap’s been increased by eight – so if you own the Secret Armory of General Knoxx DLC, that’s dialled up to 69; if you own only the vanilla game, it’s now 58. Enemies should scale to the new level cap throughout the whole game, according to the patch notes, “as long as playthrough 2 has been completed”. I can’t work that out, either. Item drops are now also scaled appropriately to enemy levels.

Elsewhere, the Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution Achievement / Trophy glitch has been fixed, and these should unlock properly now. That’s the really important bit.

Obviously, console and Steam players will be prompted to download the update automatically, while boxed copy owners can grab it from the official site (197 MB).
