Darkspore open beta registrations launched

3 November 2010

EA has now opened up registration for the beta testing phase of Darkspore. Interested gamers can head on over to the Darkspore website to sign up and South Africa is on the list of eligible participating countries. There is no indication of when the beta access will begin however, but expect an e-mail to arrive as soon as it happens.

The Darkspore website is also kitted out with lots of screenshots and gameplay videos for those wanting to investigate. You can also check out the screenshots in MyGaming’s Darkspore image gallery. There is no concrete release date yet but rumour has it that Darkspore will see the light in February 2011.

Darkspore is a spin-off from EA’s successful Spore game. Darkspore is a hack ‘n slash RPG title with a sci-fi story setting. Players will be able to customize their characters in a similar vein to the genetic customization found in Spore. There are apparently thousands of body parts to collect throughout the game, on top of weapons and armour.

The story goes that for eons the Crogenitors traversed the galaxy, genetically transforming and sculpting living matter to their will. In their unchecked arrogance they created something they could not control – the Darkspore. Now the galaxy is under siege.

Using the powers of E-DNA, the Darkspore has transformed planetary populations into mutated hordes. Its sole purpose is to dominate life on all planets.

Players take on the role of a fugitive, whom has remained hidden for a millennium. Their mission is to reconstruct an arsenal of genetic heroes and lead the battle against the Darkspore.

The game will feature four player co-op and a player versus player battle system. Check out the Darkspore trailer for a taste of the action.
