After experiencing the fantastic Doom alpha, we have been massively fired up for any more news about the upcoming first-person shooter.
We’ve got some new, brutally detailed screenshots of Doom, showing off the gore, blood, demonic enemies, horrific environments and general return to glory for the franchise.
What impresses us most is the powerful id Tech 6 Engine at work, rendering impressively detailed character and enemy models, textures and the surrounding environments in general. Those demons do look immensely terrifying.
Apparently, the goal for id Software with this new Doom was to capture a “rock n’ roll vibe” and we thoroughly approve. The game’s creative director Hugo Martin saying:
Rock ‘n’ roll was our inspiration for everything. There is a lot of heavy metal in our hell, and that is intentional. When you look at the original Doom, we always said it looks like the kind of stuff a 15-year-old would draw on the back of his notebook during math class. We really wanted the world to look like that–to have a personality that would shine through in everything we did. So we have a lot of skulls; it’s kind of over-the-top. A little bit of Castle Grayskull in there; it’s very He-Man.
Doom is set for a gruesome and blood curdling release this year for PC, Xbox One and PS4. We can’t wait for all the gore!
