South Korean kid fights with mom about games, kills her and himself

17 November 2010

Hot on the heels of research findings which suggest that male gamers are generally well adjusted compared to female gamers, comes a report from the Associated Press that a 15 year old South Korean boy allegedly strangled his mother to death following an argument over “internet” games.

Shortly after murdering his mother, the boy hanged himself, said South Korean police official Jung Yo-il.

The boy’s younger sister claims that he had been playing violent video games online over the past two to three years.

Seoul is one of the world’s most technically advanced cities, with over 90 percent of homes having broadband internet access. An estimated 2 million of its citizens are Internet addicts, and the nation is home to many of the best StarCraft/StarCraft II players.
