The confusion over the alleged Crash Bandicoot reboot

16 February 2016

Yesterday, news broke that once-PlayStation mascot Crash Bandicoot would be making a return in the form of a new PS4 title; however, those umours were quickly shut down (sadly).

The hullabaloo kicked off when NECA Toys director Randy Falk had suggested that Sony may well be looking to bring back the beloved anthropomorphic bandicoot.

We’ve got a lot of stuff going on with Sony. Looking at some of their other titles, I see that they’re bringing Crash Bandicoot back,” Falk said during an interview at the New York Toy Fair.

However, it turned out that Falk was referring to some fan art he saw, confusing it for official Sony content.

It’s not the case,” a rep from NECA said. “Someone has misunderstood a comment he made. Randy saw a faked fan-made image right before he came to the show and said that if the game were coming back, we’d love to do figures.

NECA are currently producing collectibles for other Sony franchises, including LittleBigPlanet and Uncharted, so we can’t really blame people for getting too excited.

Crash Bandicoot was one of Naughty Dog’s first breakthrough games on the first PlayStation console back in 1996.

The game spawned many sequels and spin-off titles such as Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, Crash Bandicoot: Warped, Crash Team Racing, Crash Nitro Kart, Crash Bash and many more.

Unfortunately, the franchise faded into obscurity with some less-than-enjoyable entries after the game went multiplatform and development duties shifted to other studios.
