Microsoft has announced support for cross-network play for Xbox users, which will allow them to play games with PC and PlayStation 4 owners.
According to Eurogamer, the availability of cross-network play will depend on game developers – with Microsoft focussing on smaller-scale games for now.
“ID@Xbox boss Chris Charla has stated Cross-Network Play can in theory apply to any game, indie or not, regardless of where the current focus may be,” stated the report.
“This means players on Xbox One and Windows 10 using Xbox Live will be able to play with players on different online multiplayer networks – including other console and PC networks.”
He said game developers will have to support the feature, and Xbox Live players will have the option to choose with who they play.
Rocket League is the first game to support cross-network play, with PC and Xbox One owners able to team up.
