Infinity Blade conquers App Store

In just 24 hours since launch, Epic and Chair’s Unreal Engine 3-powered iPhone game Infinity Blade has thoroughly conquered the iTunes App Store, staking a decisive claim to the #1 spots on both the Top Paid and Top Grossing Apps lists, and dethroning the long-reigning Angry Birds. Perhaps more importantly, it’s also commanding a 4 ½ star rating aggregate from users, pretty much declaring it the best thing ever.

No, I can’t work out how it could be better than Robot Unicorn Attack either, but I guess there’s just no accounting for taste.

The game was originally unveiled in September under the codename “Project Sword”, and subsequently released on the iTunes Store as a free demo dubbed “Epic Citadel”. It was developed by the guys behind last year’s XBLA hit, Shadow Complex. Needless to say, perhaps, but it’s kind of amazing looking. I remember when Snake was hot **** on a Nokia 2110.

Infinity Blade is available for the iPad, iPhone 3GS and up, and iPod Touch 3G and up, and tagged at $5.99 / £3.49.
