PS3 Black Ops refund petition number growing

27 December 2010

A few weeks back, some angry PS3 owner put up a petition demanding a refund for a version of Call of Duty: Black Ops that was allegedly “inferior” to the Xbox’s. Ostensibly somewhat petty and absurd, it’s true that since then, the PS3 version has been tragically subject to a number of serious issues, particularly with lag and frame rate problems, as well as unstable connectivity in matchmaking.

Treyarch has deployed a series of fixes in the meantime, but it seems each one only breaks something else, which has lead to an increasing number of complaints. As such, the petition – originally invested with something like 128 signatures – has now pulled over 11000 complaints. Although, it’s sort of hard to take some of these seriously.

“This game is soooooo fail……,” writes Jeff. “i have playes every CoD AND THIS IS THE WORT!”

On 22 December, Treyarch released a 1.05 update for the game, addressing the following issues:

• Improved party reliability when leaving with party – an additional step in an ongoing series of party improvements continued in the next patch
• Improved UPnP functionality – further expands the game’s capability to open NATs on routers with universal plug and play enabled
• Enabled mute functionality in Playercards in the pre-game lobby
• Enabled kick functionality in party and private match lobbies
• Addressed an issue where the pre-game lobby would not always display properly when multiple players leave the lobby after a team split
• Addressed an issue where the pre-game lobby would appear stuck on the countdown timer while waiting to balance teams

It seems this has corrected most of the more persistent problems with online multiplayer, but there are still some reports of console freezing during play.
