Torchlight, Beyond Good & Evil HD coming to XBLA

7 January 2011

The Xbox LIVE Arcade is throwing its second (annual?) House Party promo, with a special game launch each week starting 16 February.

Most prominent on the launch list is indie darling Torchlight, revealed for XBLA just this week at CES. Cult darling Beyond Good & Evil HD will also be making its way to XBLA and should definitely be considered by those who missed the original. Bejeweled Blitz Live, Hard Corps: Uprising, and Full House Poker are also included.

Torchlight comes over from PC, where its Diablo-Lite gameplay has charmed the cursed plate cuisses off critics and gamers alike. Since everybody on Xbox LIVE has probably already finished DeathSpank four times already, this should be a welcome replacement.

Torchlight

Despite previously announcing the game for both Xbox and PS3, Runic Games’ Torchlight developer Travis Baldtree has confirmed in a post on the dev’s forums that Torchlight won’t be going over to the PSN.

“No PS3 plans to speak of,” he said. “Microsoft is acting as the publisher on this one. And given how much work it was to get one console game done, I’m a little relieved we didn’t attempt both platforms at once anyway.”

Elsewhere, Beyond Good & Evil HD is, of course, a remake of Ubisoft’s now rather legendary action-adventure game – originally released as the first of an intended trilogy, poor sales doomed the game to a purgatory of obscurity, despite enormous critical acclaim.

A sequel was finally announced some time last year, and now the first game’s getting a second chance, with shiny 1080p visuals, new character models, improved textures, a remastered soundtrack, online leaderboards, and Xbox Achievements. A PSN version is still in the works.
