BitTorrent users are the latest victims of hacking

9 June 2016

The accounts of around 35,000 BitTorrent forums users were compromised in a recent hack, according to Have I Been Pwned?

Motherboard reported that the subsequent dump from the hack contained email addresses, IP addresses, salted SHA1 password hashes, and usernames.

BitTorrent’s forum is based on IP.Board, software that has suffered several data breaches, Motherboard reported.

According to BitTorrent, the vulnerability was with one of IP.Board’s other clients, but it allowed attackers to access information on multiple accounts.

BitTorrent has told its users to change their passwords.
