A Facebook mishap accidentally led the social media company to declare the Philippines at war.
Facebook created a banner featuring the country’s flag in order to celebrate its National Independence Day on 12 June.
However the flag used in the promotional banner featured an inverted colour scheme with red on top and blue on bottom.
According to Philippine law, this colour configuration can be used, but only during times of war.
“This was unintentional, and we’re sorry,” the company said to The Philippine Star. “We care deeply about the community in the Philippines and, in an attempt to connect people on Independence Day, we made a mistake.”
Facebook says we’re at war. Happy Independence Day, Philippines. May we truly be free. #Kalayaan2016 o #Kasarinlan pic.twitter.com/SktzRNSJMj
