A bug in Google’s Chrome web browser makes it possible to work around its Widevine digital rights management software, Engadget reported.
Security researchers from Ben-Gurion University released a video on YouTube about the vulnerability, stating that you can use software to copy Netflix movies.
This is because the system does not ensure that the decrypted video is playing only in the browser. It is therefore possible to capture the video when it is passed from Widevine to the browser’s media player.
The researchers will not reveal their technique until a patch is released.
Engadget reported that Firefox and Opera use Widevine, and the vulnerability may also exist in these browsers.
