Torchlight II delayed

10 February 2011

Runic Games has announced that their action RPG Torchlight II, will now be released in July, as opposed to sometime around May.

The delay has been attributed to the Xbox 360 version, which according to Max Schaefer, needs “extra work with the interface.”

“It’s going great, however. We’ve actually got some optimisations and technical improvements that went into making the Xbox version that we’ve been able to go back and implement into Torchlight II for PC.”

“We’ve got load times down, we’ve got some animation stuff that’s a little bit better, and it’s feeling really good right now.”

Torchlight was released back in 2009, and despite its largely derivative gameplay, it was widely praised for its “old-school RPG” roots. Torchlight is being ported to Xbox Live next month.

The most exciting feature which Torchlight II will introduce is co-operative multiplayer, which will allow players to join each and go questing together online via a peer-to-peer system.
