Microsoft’s Xbox One will also include the ability to play a game while its downloading, similar to that of the Playstation 4’s.
Digital games can be played during the download period, even if they’re only partially downloaded. Microsoft had previously confirmed that disc-based game can be played while being installed.
In more Xbox One news, Xbox chief product officer Marc Whitten said that while there are regrets with the company’s pre-E3 and E3 presentations, Microsoft is excited about the possibilities that the console’s digital features could bring.
“If [digital game sharing] is something that people are really excited about and want, we’re going to make sure that we find the right way to bring it back,” explained Whitten. “We took some feedback and realized there was some stuff we needed to add to the program.
“To add it to the program, we had to make room, just from a pure engineering perspective, to be able to get that work done. So taking Family Sharing out of the launch window was not about ‘we’re going to take our toys and go home’ or something like that.”
