Gene Wilder, the beloved actor who starred in a number of iconic films including Young Frankenstein and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, has died.
The 83-year old star passed away in his home in Stamford, Connecticut following complications with Alzheimers, according to nephew Jordan Walker-Pearlman.
According to Walker-Pearlman, “the decision to wait until this time to disclose his condition wasn’t vanity, but more so that the countless young children that would smile or call out to him ‘there’s Willy Wonka,’ would not have to be then exposed to an adult referencing illness or trouble and causing delight to travel to worry, disappointment or confusion.”
Wilder is best know for his comedic work, most famously his role as Willy Wonka in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Other film credits include Blazing Saddles and The Producers, the latter of which earned him an Oscar nomination.
