The 10 most popular questions South Africans asked Google this week

Google has released its weekly trend report, which shows the top trending topics and questions over the last week.

There were over 100,000 searches for the term “state capture report” on Google South Africa on Tuesday and Thursday, while other trending terms included “State Capture report live”, “Thuli Madonsela”, and “state capture”.

The top ten trending questions for the week paint a different picture, though.

The top trending questions on Google SA this week were:

  1. Is Nandi Mngoma pregnant?
  2. Is Thabo Mbeki dead?
  3. How old is Dolly Parton?
  4. How old is Michael Phelps?
  5. Is Susan leaving Muvhango?
  6. Who founded Google?
  7. What is bipolar?
  8. How to download movies?
  9. What is risk behaviour?
  10. What is bantu education?

Google processes more than 40 000 search queries every second. This translates to more than a billion searches per day and 1.2 trillion searches per year worldwide.
