Playboy brings back naked models

Playboy is featuring nude models in its magazine again, following a failed attempt to boost circulation by removing naked women.

In March 2016, Playboy magazine stopped publishing nude photos after reaching an agreement with founder Hugh Hefner.

The magazine continued to publish women in provocative poses, but they were no longer fully nude.

Playboy CEO Scott Flanders said at the time that sexual images are freely available on the Internet and that the “battle has been fought and won”.

Fast forward one year, and the experiment has failed. The March/April issue of Playboy features Elizabeth Elam, with the headline “Naked is normal”.

Playboy’s Chief Creative Officer Cooper Hefner, the son of Hugh Hefner, said: “I will be the first to admit that the way in which the magazine portrayed nudity was dated, but removing it entirely was a mistake.”

“Nudity was never the problem, because nudity isn’t a problem. Today we’re taking our identity back and reclaiming who we are.”
