The Tshimologong Precinct and Ekasi Esports are hosting an inaugural eSports Day on 26 March 2022 in Braamfontein that will be the first of many hosted on the last Saturday of every month.
The event invites all South African game developers and esports fans and will include displays dedicated to robotics, coding, and more.
eSports Day aims to grow locally developed games as it provides a platform for South African developers to show off their games to a live audience and receive immediate feedback.
The Tshimologong Precinct and Ekasi Esports are focused on the township youth and, therefore, aside from the showcasing of games in development, the eSports Day will feature exciting tournaments for you to join, round tables, and industry-focused discussions led by local experts to showcase gaming as a career and lifestyle choice.
Mobile gaming, for example, is the fastest growing industry in the world, and it’s perfectly suited for South Africa and its township gamers as the platform offers a wide variety of free games while competing or simply entertaining oneself doesn’t require additional hardware.
“Ekasi is a collective committed to furthering township youths’ presence in the virtual world. The key to this is establishing visibility in the bricks-and-mortar world. In this regard, we are pleased to be really ramping up our real-world activities in 2022,” said Perfect Zikhali, Managing Director of Ekasi Esports.
This monthly event comes after the recent and successful collective partnership with the Western Cape Department of Health on a vaccination drive in Khayelitsha. This event hosted back-to-back gaming tournaments to promote the pro-vaccination message.
“In South Africa, gaming can be a force for good and a powerful way to create educational and employment opportunities, and most importantly, hope for the future,” said Zikhali.
“Our mission is to build a leading esports lifestyle brand by developing content that is engaging, creating top-of-the-line merchandise, and delivering excellence in tournaments and leagues, all the while providing value for our partners,” concluded Zikhali.
To register for the eSports Day is free and you can do so here.
