Fortnite announces million dollar LAN competition

31 May 2022

Epic Games has announced plans to host the Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS) Invitational competition in November 2022.

The LAN event will take place over two days on the 12th and 13th of November at the Raleigh Convention Center in North Carolina, USA.

“We will be inviting a selection of top FNCS Duos from around the world who will have the opportunity to compete in a single lobby for a share of a $1 million (R15.5 million) prize pool,” said Epic Games’ Fortnite team.

“For anyone anticipating an invitation, please make sure any required travel documentation is secured well ahead of time,” they added.

However, Epic Games noted that players’ health is its top priority and said that they would reschedule or change these plans if public health trends changed at any point close to the time.

The FNCS Invitational 2022 will be the first in-person event since the Fortnite World Cup in 2019, which was a three-day competition with a $30 million (R465 million) prize pool.

This was the first and only World Cup due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which prevented any in-person event in both 2020 and 2021.

While it is unclear whether Epic Games plans to bring back the Fortnite World Cup, many speculate that these invitational LAN events will act as a qualifier for a 2023 Fortnite World Cup competition.

Epic Games plans to share more details on the FNCS Invitational 2022 in the coming months.
