Thousands of movie pirates slapped with lawsuits and R4,500 fines

Pirates who torrented the recent film release London Has Fallen received a nasty surprise, reports TorrentFreak.

The film’s creators have sent out automated $300 (R4,500) fines to thousands of people who illegally downloaded the film, and are now issuing additional lawsuits.

The cases are filed against “does” who are only known by their IP-address, with the studio then trying to uncover their real identities by subpoenaing their ISPs.

After their personal info is released, the accused Internet subscribers will get a settlement offer, which can go up to several thousands dollars.

Millennium Films and LHF Productions, two companies behind the film, hope that this will recoup some of the lost earnings after the Blu-Ray leaked online.
