5 games we can’t wait to play in July

July is here, and with it comes some big-name game releases, including the return of a veteran franchise, a highly-anticipated sequel, and some interesting new IPs to mix things up.

Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age

11 July 2017 (PS4)

Final Fantasy 12: The Zodiac Age is a remaster of 2006’s Final Fantasy 12, albeit with a few tweaks and changes.

The PS4 edition of the game will feature the beloved RPG mechanics of the original, but will also include the International Zodiac Job system that was part of the Japan version of the PS2 title. The job system allows a user to assign a role to a character, which provides them with unique skills and stat growth opportunities.

Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles

18 July 2017 (PS4, PC)

Looking like a colourful, Zelda-esque adventure, Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles is for those looking for a bit of discovery, mystery, and lite action along the way. In Yonder, you will explore the open-world of Gemea, uncovering the islands secrets and the mysteries as you embark on a journey of self-discovery.

On a quest to become the island’s champion, you join forces with Sprites, creatures who are the only thing capable of dispersing the murk, to save Gemea and its people. Players will also need to master farming, crafting, cooking, fishing and brewing in order to make the island your own.

Lone Echo

20 July 2017 (PS4, PC)

Oculus Rift owners should be excited for developer Ready at Dawn’s (The Order: 1886, God of War: Chains of Olympus) newest project, Lone Echo, releasing this month.

Lone Echo puts you inside what seems to be a sentient robot in deep space, and the entire movement system is based on grabbing walls and other structures and pulling yourself along, or using the jets on your wrists to get around. However, things get pretty weird when an anomaly in space is detected.

Splatoon 2

21 July 2017 (PS4, PC)

Nintendo’s colourful multiplayer shooter returns for another round of squid vs kid action, where each team has to claim as much territory as possible using ink guns and abilities.

The original’s beloved 4-on-4 turf battles return, along with new modes, stages, fashions, and weapons, like the dual-wielding Splat Dualies. It looks like Splatoon is back to claim the competitive shooter crown of the Switch.

Fortnite (Early Access)

25 July 2017 (PS4, PC)

Fortnite is basically the love-child of Minecraft and Left 4 Dead. It’s a co-op sandbox survival game and is about exploration, scavenging items, crafting weapons, building fortified structures, and fighting waves of encroaching monsters, and it looks epic!

Players will work together to scavenge items they can use for building by day to build their fort, and by night defend it from the zombies for 14 days hence the title Fortnite.
