So it’s E3 next week. That means that pretty much every game publisher and developer in the world will be gathering in Los Angeles to compete for the media spotlight in what is thought to be the world’s most important annual games trade show.
There are already dozens of big games confirmed to be on display at the show, but what really gets gamers excited is the new game announcements. Here are some games that we can reasonably hope to be announced at E3 2011.
Borderlands 2

Borderlands was one of 2009’s sleeper hits
Randy Pitchford has already told vg247 that Borderlands 2 is in development, and why wouldn’t it be? The first game received largely positive reviews and sold pretty well to boot, making a sequel almost inevitable. It’s really just a matter of time then, and seeing as how the game was released in early 2010, we can at least tentatively expect a Borderlands 2 announcement next week.
FarCry 3

Gorgeous, but critically flawed, lets hope Ubisoft listen to fans with FarCry 3
Another game which we know to currently be in development, the first FarCry 3 titbits began emerging in late 2009. Back then it was rumoured that the game will “most probably” be set in Africa again, although there is also mention of an Antartic setting.
FarCry 2 came out about two and a half years ago, making a sequel announcement about due.
Carmageddon
Until a few days ago, the idea of a Carmageddon sequel is something which I would have sadly had to relegate to my fantasy list of must-make sequels. However, a countdown clock at Carmageddon.com suggests that something will be revealed at 10AM this Wednesday. We’re betting it’s a teaser for an official announcement that will come at E3.

Controversy aside, Carmageddon was actually a super fun game
Grand Theft Auto V
In fairness, this is our wildest and probably most unlikely prediction for E3 2011. There are however a few rumours about, which fansite gtav.net has done a great job of compiling. Statements made in a recent conference call indicate that Take-Two has something big planned for next year, and ever vocal analyst guy Michael Pachter has even predicted that GTA V will come either late this year or early next year. However, in 2009 Pachter also predicted Rockstar would have finished work on GTA V by the end of 2010, which alongside so many other failed predictions makes us wonder why people still listen to him.
Still, it’s at least not utterly ridiculous to hope for a GTA V announcement at E3 this year.

Moms and politicians alike will bracing themselves at the thought of another “murder simulator”
Syndicate Wars
I’ll be honest, I was a little young for the original Syndicate Wars when it came out in 1993, but there is no denying that it is an absolute classic from the early years of gaming. EA owns the property rights for the supposed sequel, and many are expecting them to announce it at E3. The publisher fanned the flames recently by confirming that they are busy working on a “classic” property for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Additional rumours suggest that the game, codenamed Project Redline, has been in development since August 2007.

When it was released Syndicate was considered one of the most graphically violent games available
