A faithful following of old school gamers curated the memory of Duke in his absence, preparing the new generation for his return. Leaning back in their ergonomic, well-worn, gaming rocking-chairs, they recall tales of ripping off heads and shitting down necks; dark nights with a warm stripper as their only company; and the grim realisation that running out of chewing gum means it’s time to kick some alien scumbags in the nuts.
Rumours, announcements, broken promises – despite the onslaught of false hope, the faithful never doubted that Duke Nukem Forever would make its prophetic appearance in the gaming world. It was once the ultimate vapourware – but now the vapourware has condensed. Whether or not the game is any good, the release is a marked moment in gaming history.
The Duke Nukem Forever Balls of Steel edition has arrived in the MyGaming offices, and we reverently inspect the contents as we prepare ourselves to review the game over the weekend.
