Don’t stress — there are still some great titles confirmed for 2022

Most gamers would agree that 2022 has been quite the roller-coaster ride. The year started strongly with the likes of Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West but has since been disappointing due to an extensive number of anticipated games being pushed back from 2022 to 2023 and beyond.

The most notable delays include Bethesda’s epic open-world sci-fi RPG Starfield and Arkane’s vampire co-op action game Redfall.

With such big AAA title delays, it’s easy to feel like there’s nothing to look forward to in 2022 for gamers.

However, the month of June came in hot with its not-E3 summer games showcasing events, which included the Warhammer Skulls live showcase, Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, and the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase.

These events shared some exciting new game announcements, reveals, and trailers — providing gamers with some hope for 2022.

New titles confirmed for 2022

There are a lot of pretty exciting titles that have committed to 2022 release dates.

June has seen the release of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge which launched last week on 16 June. The game is currently available on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.

A Plague Tale: Requiem – a sequel to A Plague Tale: Innocence – is set to be an exciting action-adventure title as there is a lot of fun to be had amongst all the blood, rats, and tears.

If this game interests you, set a reminder for 23 June at 18:00 SAST, where the game’s YouTube channel will provide a release date and host an extended gameplay trailer.

Playing the role of a ginger kitty doesn’t necessarily sound fun, but ever since its reveal, we’re all interested to play the cat exploration game Stray, which is coming in July.

August will see the Marvel’s Spiderman Remastered release on PC, while September will feature The Lord of the Rings: Gollum and Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.

For all the FPS fans, Blizzard is bringing both Overwatch 2 PVP early access and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in October.

New releases that are still expected in 2022 — release dates TBA

Several titles are expected to release closer to the 2022 holiday season, however, much like last year, we’re likely to see some of these games being pushed over into 2023 — but we remain hopeful that won’t be the case.

Retro-future action RPG Atomic Heart has finally given itself a “Q4 2022” release window, and other notable titles that find themselves in the same boat include Hogwarts Legacy, Scorn, and High On Life (which was recently revealed during the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase).

  • Highwater
  • Sonic Frontiers
  • Hogwarts Legacy
