South African games release calendar – October 2011

October is upon us, and like every year, it is ushering in the silly season for games releases. The obvious highlights for the month are Battlefield 3, Rage, Dark Souls and Batman Arkham City, however, the likes of Might and Magic: Heroes 6, Forza 4, Fifa Manager 12 and PES 2012 will also have franchise fans frothing at the gills.

Dark Souls PS3, 360 (7 October)

October will see From Software release the spiritual successor to the widely acclaimed Demon’s Souls, which is regarded as one of the most brutally challenging yet rewarding RPGs released in recent years.

Rage PC, PS3, 360 (7 October)

There was a time when id Software was the hottest first person shooter developer in the world. While the likes of Infinity Ward and EA DICE may now be the most likely contenders for that mantle, there is no denying that Rage is looking totally awesome, promising a highly action intensive shooter experience.

Might and Magic: Heroes 6 PC (14 October)

It’s been a few years since we had a taste of Ubisoft’s classic fantasy turn based strategy RPG hybrid, and fans of this iconic series will be tentatively looking forward to Heroes 6. Some pretty big changes are being implemented in Heroes 6, such as the simplification of resource collection, with only four resources instead of the usual seven.

PES 2012 PS3, 360, PC (14 October)

The eleventh edition of the popular Pro Evolution Soccer series is out in October, and as usual it will feature the exclusive licensing for the UEFA Championships League.

Forza 4 360 (14 October)

Turn 10’s iconic Xbox 360 exclusive franchise is getting a release this month, and will be the first Forza game to incorporate Kinect motion control into its interface. 

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record PC, PS3, 360 (21 October)

Capcom’s reinterpretation of the events that unfolded in Dead Rising 2 is scheduled for release in October, and promises a new story as well as various gameplay and technical enhancements.

Fifa Manager 12 PC (21 October)

Another big soccer release, EA’s Fifa Manager 12 promises over 700 new features and imprvements, including 3D matches, new club facilities and the inclusion of a financial sector.

Batman: Arkham City PC, PS3, 360 (21 October)

Batman: Arkham Assylum was one of 2010’s sleeper hits, achieving critical acclaim and being recognised as the game based on a comic released ever. The sequel is out in a few weeks.

Battlefield 3 PC, PS3, 360 (28 October)

Possibly the year’s most highly anticipated game, Battlefield 3 promises next generation visuals and a deep and engaging multiplayer component.
