Dead Rising 2: Off The Record is more than Frank West

12 October 2011

It’s not that we don’t like Chuck Greene – he’s a sincere, heartfelt father with some serious nail-bat skills, who will do anything to make sure his little girl is okay.

But Frank West is just awesome.

That’s why Dead Rising fans can thank Capcom for bringing back our favourite Zombie reporter (not to be confused with a zombie-reporter) in Off The Record.

Off The Record is a re-imagining of Dead Rising 2, following original zombie-maimer, Frank West, as he works to break yet another story – this time in Fortune City – after his rise and fall following the Willamette incident.

But this reworked version is more than just the return of West.

The game will also add a few new features and goodies into the mix, as well as making some of the more frustrating aspects of  Dead Rising 2 a little smoother – most notably, more frequent checkpoints.

Anyone who’s had to trek across the massive zombie hordes time and time again because of an untimely death will be very happy with that, as well as the promised faster loading times.

OTR will feature 10 new weapon combinations (that are likely to make even less sense than some of the combos featured in DR2); the return of West’s camera skills for those rare postcard moments; and will give you access to the Uranus zone – a sci-fi-themed amusement park that’s open to a hundred-and-one butt-jokes.

There’s also a new Sandbox mode – which gives you full access to Fortune City without the stressful time-limit attached.

Dead Rising 2: Off The Record looks to be the game I – and many others – wished Dead Rising 2 actually was.

No offence to Chuck, of course.

Dead Rising 2: Off The Record is set to release locally 21 October 2011.
