It’s award week here at MyGaming!
Starting today, we’re going to be bringing you the official MyGaming Awards™ for 2011 – where we look at the best (and worst) games of 2011, and what we believe came out on top.
Instead of our usual decision making process – where we put ideas on a dartboard, blindfold Tarryn and tell her to throw as hard as she can – we actually put things to a vote around the MyGaming office, and using an elaborate and entirely complicated scoring technique, we’ve come up with this year’s results.
The votes are in, the scores have been tallied – and the results are coming at you this week.
Today, we’re looking at the platform awards for the year – what was the best game on PS3? Was there anything worth playing on the Wii? Let’s find out.
Platform Awards 2011
Best PC Game
Battlefield 3
The battle for best PC game was actually quite close, with BF3 beating out the runner-up by 1 point. Nic was probably the most excited about Battlefield 3, practically salivating at the idea of it possibly winning game of the year.
“Did it win Game of the year? It won game of the year right? Of course it did.” – Nic Simmonds.
Runners-up: The Witcher II, Portal 2
Best PS3 Game
Uncharted 3
There was no real surprise here – despite Uncharted 3’s minor faults, the game blew us away – in terms of its visuals as well as its epic set-pieces. Naughty Dog know how to apply a level of polish that, in our eyes, was pretty much unmatched on the PS3 in 2011.
Runners-up: Batman: Arkham City, Portal 2
Best Xbox 360 Game
Gears of War 3
Bringing the trilogy to the end (but we doubt it’s the end of the series), Gears of War 3 went bigger and better in every way – adding layer upon layer to the mechanics fans of the series have come to love. The game rocks, the multiplayer rocks, and as an Xbox exclusive, it’s no wonder it hit the top score in the votes.
Runners-up: L.A. Noire, Dead Space 2
Best Wii Game
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
It may come as surprise to you, but not many people around the MyGaming office play on the Wii very often – but those of us that do got a real blast out of Skyward Sword. Link’s latest adventure was a clear winner in the votes – even with a couple of staffers abstaining from this segment, Zelda came out on top.
Runners-up: Rayman Origins, Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure
Best Portable Game
Infinity Blade II (iOS)
The portable segment was for Nintendo 3DS, DS, the PSP, and iOS systems – and strangely enough, most of the votes stuck to Apple’s platform. The iOS platform saw a huge boost in games in 2011 (with more still to come) – and with Infinity Blade II’s mose recent release, it was obviously still fresh on everyone’s mind.
“I’m the only one who voted for Pokemon Black/White, hey?” – Quinton Bronkhorst.
Runners-up: World of Goo (iOS), Machinarium (iOS)
Best Downloadable Game
Bastion
Steam, PSN and Xbox LIVE have run into a load of exclusive content that can only be attained through the respective platforms – collectively called digital download. In this section, RPG Bastion came out tops, netting almost exclusively the top vote of everyone who played it. And it’s now available for Google’s Chrome, so I’m sure it’s going to net a few more top votes soon.
Runners-up: From Dust, Magicka
