What we’re playing this weekend (10-12 February 2012)

11 February 2012

Dan Parmenter

This weekend I’ll be putting Foxconn workers to shame by slaving on a new business pitch at work for every waking moment until Monday morning.

With any luck I’ll be able to sneak in a few minutes of iPhone gaming in between gritting my teeth against the cat o’ nine tails and searching for load-bearing beams.

Chris Kemp

It was bound to happen sometime. I’ve tried to resist, I really have, but the bittersweet love for the DotA-clone (I morally refuse the ridiculous “MOBA” acronym) has returned, and I’ve been finding myself playing Heroes of Newerth again.

I’ve still got a lot of packing up to do for my imminent return to South Africa, but in between that and writing the weekend news, I know I’ll be wasting my hours getting screamed at online by incompetent adolescents. Even lovable, cuddly Blizzard is suing Valve over the DotA name, which just proves that no one can be nice when playing it.

Chris is looking forward to facing this worthy opponent online

Tarryn van der Byl

Okay. Okay, guys. This is it. This – THIS! – is the weekend I’m finally going to bust out all that Mass Effect 2 DLC I bought over a year ago, and play it. The Mass Effect 3 demo drops next week, and if I don’t get this stuff finished up now, it’s probably never going to happen.

I’ll also be playing my banjo because I made a bet with a friend that I could work out an arrangement of the Jurassic Park theme.

Quinton Bronkhorst

Like Tarryn, I too have finally gotten around to downloading all the Mass Effect 2 DLC. Unlike Tarryn, however, I cannot play the banjo.

So many things are demanding my attention this weekend – Soul Calibur V; Final Fantasy XIII-2; work; washing my hair etc – I doubt I’ll have time to even look in Commander Shepard’s direction.

Just so many things demanding Quinton's time, dammit!

Nic Simmonds

This weekend I’ll be sinking my time into King Arthur II: The Role-playing Wargame. The original was a diamond in the rough, and I’m hoping the sequel has improved and developed the formula which made it a success.

I’ll also be trying to catch up with some friends in Star Wars: The Old Republic, and of course it wouldn’t be a Friday afternoon without a few cold beers over a marathon Battlefield 3 session.

Picture Nic doing this - only alone, and crying.

Derrick Cramer

I spent a fair bit of my childhood playing ‘Sid Meier’s Pirates!’, so imagine my surprise when I find a the game available on iOS for a paltry $5! The PC and PS3 will be neglected this weekend as I sail from port to port, sinking ships, swordfighting stubborn Captains, and wooing fine dames with my two left feet.
