Games you can play this week

16 July 2012

This week, we get two previously-released games, although, this time we’re treated to some special features and snazzy additions in the form of a “Game of the Year” edition for Dead Island, as well as the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection heading to PS Vita.

Dead Island: Game of the Year Edition (PC, 360, PS3)

The opinions on Dead Island differ quite a lot. As Alex Hempel said in his MyGaming Dead Island review:

“Dead Island is a solid, but not outstanding game. The whole ‘zompocalypse’ sandbox concept is very appealing, as is the combat and weapons model. On the upside there are the large environment, character progression and the sheer variety of weapons. This is contrasted by the technical issues, the repetitive combat and a general lack of credible physics. Hardcore gamers will lament the overall lack of real challenges; casual players will probably love the fact that the game is rather unpunishing.”

Regardless of the divided opinion, Dead Island gets a Game of the Year Edition this week and will pack in all of the game’s available DLC, including the Bloodbath Arena DLC, the Ryder White expansion, and the Ripper weapon.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (PS Vita)

The Metal Gear Solid HD Collection hit the PS3 earlier this year, and now it’s own its way to Sony’s smaller handheld baby brother this week.

As expected, Metal Gear Solid always delivers on it’s promises and the HD collection lets gamers relive some of the best last-gen console and handheld classics.

As Gareth Thomas said in his MyGaming Metal Gear Solid HD Collection review:

“This is a must-have title for any fan of the Metal Gear Solid franchise who has either a PS3 or Xbox 360. Indeed, it is a must have title for anyone interested in the stealth genre.”

metal gear hd collection vita is no must-have but a avoid-at-all-cost. i mean, seriously.. am i the only one who finds this a very poor effort by the publisher? just because the launch lineup of the vita was unbelievably bad with all the rehashes and extremely lousy ports of already known games the gamer should buy anything that comes around? i don’t think so. i already got the hd collection for the ps3. just because the publisher had the idea of a cheap an quick moneygrab without any effort i shall open my wallet again for 1/3 less of the contents? we are living in very dark gamer-times where publishers get away with just about everything. just because the planet is way overcrowded with people and they are reaching still enough people with this questionable approach to the gaming business. sometimes i don’t get people at all.
