What to play this week

This week, we finally see the release of the Wii U – something that we’ve been fortunate to get our hands on, and can’t wait to get some more time with.

Far Cry 3 is another colossal release that we’re eager for, giving us a massive open-world to cause untold havoc in.

Far Cry 3

30 November 2012

Far Cry 3 has already impressed the international gaming media, and it’s our turn this week to get a taste of paradise, along with a little chaos.

Far Cry 3 throws players back into the sun-kissed tropical setting the series is known for, and playing as a survivor known as Jason, the limits of humanity and psychological strength will be pushed.

Running on Ubisoft Montreal’s impressive Dunia 2 engine, the game is set to feature a massive sandbox environment, allowing players to take advantage of their large open-world in order to approach situations in a number of ways – not to mention looking absolutely gorgeous.

MyGaming also got to chat to Far Cry 3′s Cinematic Director, Robert Purdy, about the upcoming threequel.

Nintendo Wii U

30 November 2012

Instead of another big game release, we finally get the chance to play on Nintendo’s Wii successor, the Wii U.

There are a bunch of games that will be on offer as the console launches, such as Black Ops 2, Assassin’s Creed III and FIFA 13.

As for the console itself, the Wii U features a large tablet-like controller, the GamePad. The controller hosts a 6.2 inch touch-screen, which can either replicate or supplement the game on-screen. For example: players could use the touchscreen on the controller as an inventory, map of the level, or ammo indicator, while having the television or screen dedicated to the main elements of the game.

In addition to the touchscreen, the controller will also feature two analogue sticks, front and rear facing cameras, motion-control abilities and the usual face buttons you’d expect on a modern game controller.

While the gamepad itself is a highlight of Nintendo’s new system, the console is also capable of a lot more than its predecessor. The machine will output graphics in glorious 1080p (which the original Wii was unable to do) and have backwards compatibility with all Wii games, showing that Nintendo is thinking forward, without leaving the past behind.
