Greatest gaming animals

We often celebrate the homo sapien heroes and heroines of the gaming world, but as usual, it’s the animals that get overlooked. MyGaming wants to raise a glass (or paw) to the animal heroes that have saved the day on more than one occasion.

Sonic (Sonic the Hedgehog)

Sonic is one of the most iconic game characters of all time. Starting out as a mascot for Sega before becoming the star of his own franchise, Sonic has raised the bar for what people have come to expect from hedgehogs.

The speedy and blue anthropomorphic hero has his quirks (such as his arrogance and falling in love with humans), but his persistence and lightning-quick reflexes make him one of the most admired protagonists around.

Banjo (Banjo Kazooie series)

Without a doubt, Banjo is the coolest bear in gaming. He is one of the heroes of the Banjo & Kazooie series, alongside Kazooie of course, and will stop at nothing to solve a problem so that he can get back to his nap.

Banjo can jump, climb and beat up bad guys, and also keeps Kazooie, his feathered sidekick, in his backpack to help him glide across large areas when needed, showing that there’s a lot more to this bear than eating honey and scratching his back on trees.

Donkey Kong (Donkey Kong series)

Donkey Kong may have started out as the villainous ape pitted against Jumpman (who would become Mario) back in 1981, but has turned into one of the most beloved simians in the gaming world.

Donkey Kong has a relaxed demeanour about him, but knows how to turn it on and get mad when it counts. His dedication to his bananas or whatever damsel-in-distress needs help makes us admire Donkey’s head-first approach to battle.

Crash (Crash Bandicoot)

Without saying a single word, Crash has become the coolest bandicoot to have ever lived, thanks to his slapstick humour and colourful adventures.

While he’s had some current-gen appearances in a number of games, everyone’s favourite bandicoot has been sorely missed since his heyday on the original Playstation.

Crash

Max (Sam & Max)

Sam & Max are a team, but without Max, Sam would be just your typical dog detective.

Max could be considered the most dysfunctional bunny in the crime-solving world, but his shoot-first-ask-questions-later attitude often gets the job done. His hilarious contributions to any case are often the reason people play Sam & Max games.
