This week, another big hitter in the 2013 video game calendar arrives, as Batman: Arkham Origins releases to give us an insight into the early days of the Dark Knight’s crusade against Gotham’s most villainous.
To bolster the release schedule is Crytek’s free-to-play shooter, Warface, which delivers top-class visuals and explosive action for the small price of nothing (it’s free to play).
Batman: Arkham Origins (25 October 2013)
Batman: Arkham Origins is the next game in the Arkham franchise, but instead of being developed but RockSteady Studios, who handled Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, the game development fell into the hands of Warner Bros. Games Montreal.
WB Montreal has been given full access to Rocksteady’s custom modified Unreal engine, which will keep Arkham Origins within the same vein of the previous games.
Regarding the setting, the game will take place before the events of Arkham Asylum and Arkham City where an “unrefined Batman” takes on some super-villains for the very first time.
Origins will see “eight of the world’s best assassins coming together on one night, Christmas Eve, to kill the Bat”.
The Wii U and PC versions of Batman Arkham Origins have been delayed by a week from its planned launch of 25 October, to 1 November 2013.
Warface (21 October 2013)
Crytek’s free-to-play shooter Warface has taken off in Russia, attracting over five million users so far, and South African gamers can finally give it a go when it releases this week.
The “near-future” military shooter had already racked up 2 million users in Russia as of July this year, and now have expanded that impressive player base to 5 million.
The multiplayer FPS is powered by CryEngine 3, and features both co-operative missions and class based PvP deathmatches.
