Dark Souls 2

If you’re like me and went crazy when Dark Souls 2 was released in mid-March, then you have probably finished the game by now. So, what do we do now? Are our gaming lives over?

No, friends, they are not. Although a second play-through is an option, it is just not ideal right now given the frustration that came with finishing the game the first time around. Instead, I present to you games that are similar (but not as hard) as Dark Souls 2 and should keep you busy for quite some time.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim

What is has: Huge open world, great customization, deep lore, well imaged assets.

It goes without saying that if you are looking for a game that will take a few hundred hours to complete you should get Skyrim. Since its 2011 release it has had 3 DLC packs that have added new quests, new equipment, and even your own house to settle in with your partner. Skyrim might not be as hard as Dark Souls II, but it has an abundance of lore to get yourself lost in and a great world to explore.

Dragons Dogma

What it has: Great combat, dragons, unique online features.

To be honest, I actually picked up Dragons Dogma to keep me busy last year when I felt like playing Dark Souls and I really have to say that I was not disappointed at all with the game. It has a lengthy campaign with a wide range of character classes, lots of customisation options, and dungeons galore to explore.  Dragons Dogma is tough at times but it is well balanced for those who are not into the excruciating pain that comes with Dark Souls 2. The game has a huge open world with secret bosses around every corner, as well as a recent expansion that includes a new island, weapons, enemies, and some tough boss fights.

Dark Souls

What it has: Everything that Dark Souls 2 has.

Why not explore the world of the original Dark Souls again seeing as you have just upped your gaming skills by completing the sequel. The original Dark Souls is now accompanied by Artorias of the Abyss, an expansion pack that requires a lot of preparation before you can even enter the world where the DLC takes place. When I booted up my Dark Souls save last year and played through it I actually found a boss that I missed during my last play through, and that’s the thing about this game – you probably missed something, so try explore more.

Kingdom of Amular: Reckoning

What is has: Creative open world, great combat system, endless loot.

One of the most underrated games of the last generation came in the form of an RPG that featured a well imagined world, fast hack and slash combat, great character customization, and an immense story. Many RPGs today still lack the content and gameplay that Reckoning offered upon release. I played this for hours on end and it always offered something new. The areas were all unique and the armour sets and weapons were beautifully crafted. Those looking for an RPG with lots of solid content need to play Kingdom of Amular.

Have you completed Dark Souls 2 yet? If so, what are you going to replace it with? Let us know in the comments and forum.
